Power of Wexford & Dublin

The famous firm of Powers, the world famous distillers, (now part of the immensely successful Irish Distillers Group), was founded by James Power of Dublin. He was a wealthy whiskey distiller, who was the first of his family to come to Wexford, where his family ranked among the principal gentry families of the county.

James Power’s son was Sir John Power, whose name still graces the millions of bottles of the renowned spirit, sold every year.

The John’s Lane distillery was founded in l79l and quickly acquired a reputation for making one of the finest Irish Whiskeys in the world, a position it still holds today. In the process the Powers became a very wealthy and influential family.
