” Be honest and religious, for I never saw the righteous forsaken, or their seed begging their bread.” This was the advice of the man who might be considered to be the father of all Harveys, to his son. Those were the dying words of Rev. William Harvey in 1765 to Christopher the ancestor of the Kyle Harveys. Christopher repeated those very same words in his will.
The Harveys of Kyle like the Harveys of Bargy and Killiane descended from Ambrose Harvey, who according to Burke was styled “the elder of the Bridge of Bargy” (the name of the townland on which the castle of that name was built) and John Harvey of Killiane, who was a Member of Parliament in 1695. Both of these men descended from Francis Harvey who was a Sovereign (Mayor) of Wexford in 1659 and M.P. for Clonmines in 1661.
