Grubb

Grubb

The Grubb story is quite extraordinary in that it is a tale of rags to riches that spans over three centuries.

As the name implies the family were of European origin, but the John Grubb who came to Ireland was a Cromwellian grantee. He was settled at Annis Castle on 1000 acres in South Kilkenny, near New Ross. The castle was a ruin and John and his wife, Mary, had to settle in a nearby house. He set up a linen business in an existing mill on the property and in 1676 the family became Quakers.
