Murphy – O’Morchoe
Very few of the original Gaelic families of note survived the various invasions and turbulences of history. One such family was the O’Morchoe family of Oulartleigh. The reason they managed to survive was that they tactfully adapted to the prevailing climate of the times. In bowing with the wind the main branch of the family like their distant relatives the Kavanaghs of Borris, became Protestant. Though this did not save their property in the final analysis it did save their identity.
